Maruping Phepheng’s Without Further Ado sees a man getting off a bus from a home that is now alien,
into a world that is a paradise of ruinous inadequacies. It is unclear if he’s aware that he constantly wore
a humourless and disapproving face, but this man is the architectural honcho of the ruin. Yet, Without
Further Ado is not only a stunning viciousness told grippingly by one who has known cruelty, having
himself being slewed by a breed of hounds he once sanctified. Without Further Ado is a magnification of
our days, a vivification that engages our intelligences and passions, all dramatised to stir meaning.
Without Further Ado is an ecosphere that establishes how befouled we are, an ecosphere where it stands
out that ours is more often than not a cruel place. It is a realm that probes our place in humanity, a realm
that reviews humanity itself. The story (hopefully) repairs, refreshes, perhaps even springs the reader
away from the winters of cruelty into a promise of kind rain. Without Further Ado is entertaining tinges of
social review and reflection. Besides bodies ejected by graves, and affairs of greed and muti and false
cops and absurd politicians and vicious hounds, to read Phepheng’s Without Further Ado is a satiating
trip that ushers one into a place about abiding love, a place about music, about Africa, about fun.
